Weird and Wild – Austin, Texas

Sorry mom, we just want to go out and do wild shit with our friends. And by “Our friends,” I mean her and she means me. -Jane

Austin is probably one of the best possible getaways if you’re in the Dallas area. First of all, it’s only three hours away. Then, There are many natural sites to visit and the city is always busy. As you may have heard, Austin is well known for the turn up on 6th street. We spent our weekend doing a little of both.

Our Stay

Fortunately, Mary has family in Austin. We were able to stay with her sister and family for the 2 days we were in town. Couch Surfer style! We don’t have pictures, but don’t worry about all that. Zilker Park – Barton Springs

Okay OBVIOUSLY you want to go have some free outdoor fun! Well, free for the most part. You can show up and show out for free, but if you want to rent kayaks or canoes, its somewhere around $12 an hour OR $40 for the entire day. We decided we wanted to kayak. It’s kinda sorta our thing. We were kayaking together before we were actually traveling together now that I think of it. Good shit. So, go swimming, strolling, or just enjoy the shade near the water. It has to be one of the best hang-out spots in Austin. Shid, maybe even in all of Texas. We MAY have took it a tiny bit too far on our visit. I’ll explain more on that in the next blog post. For now, lets enjoy the peaceful, less ridiculous end of it all. Ladies and Gentlemen, Zilker Park. 🙂

So, we took one of these bad boys, and had a blast. DO THIS OKAY. I don’t usually take it upon myself to tell anyone what they need to be doing, but OH WHALE. DO THIS SHIT OKAY. Just a thought….If you have kids, teach them to be fearless. Teach them life with no boundaries, point out the wildlife, take pictures, and watch their eyes light up with curiosity and joy. It will be worth the experience, WE PROMISE. Even if you’re scared yourself, they watch you, and feed off of you. Do right by them. 🙂 If you don’t have kids, get your ass out there, and have yourself a good time.

Night Life

We were a little busy being aware and enjoying ourselves to snap as many pics as we would have liked. This is basically what we saw when we arrived. Except the amount of people was probably oh…600x more than this. Let me try again on that crowd size….

Although 6th street isn’t for everyone, there is something there for everyone. There is such a large variety of clubs and bars, its impossible to NOT find a place for the mood you’re in that night. We are not party people, and honestly we hardly drink but this place brought out our best partying us. Our favorite place had to be The Coyote Ugly Bar. https://www.coyoteuglysaloon.com/austin/

Quick Little Story

Mary lost her marbles for a second in one club. She is very aware of things happening around her, so just know… she most likely peeped that. JUST SAYING. LOL, well… this time we were about halfway through our first drinks in this particular place. Music was bumpin, and everything happening in our bodies was feelin’ pretty good at this time. We both noticed a man come in the place and he seemed as if he was in a hurry. He had a duffel-bag, and he was out of my view very quickly. I didn’t think much of it. A few seconds pass…. I was sitting at the table, daydreaming. Thinking about if I should try to twerk or not and Mary popped her curly little head into my side view. She said, “Come on, we have to go. NOW.” Without question, I grabbed my drink and headed to the door. As I moved through the crowd, I wasn’t exactly sure if I should expect to get hit over the head with a bottle or maybe see a fist fling toward me. So you know, sadly I was ready for the hood-rat shit. Maybe she needed to get away from a creeper? Then of course, I thought about a possible safety concern she might be having. Immediately I thought back to the unknown figure that seemed to be in a hurry. Either way, I would find out when we were safely out of the building. I’m downing this drink as we reached the door and I left the glass on the edge of the table closes to the door. IDC what it is, if somebody said Run, what do you do?
FUCKING RUN OKAY. Just throwing that out there. It’s serious out here. So apparently, we had the same thought when he came into the place. Who brings a bag that big into a bar? Security let him in? It must be someone they know? What if he snuck past? He turned up again… WITHOUT THE BAG! Mary saw his bag missing, and she said “NOPE. NOPE. WE HAVE TO GO. Right the fuck now.” She didn’t care if it was just gym clothes, or even a bag of cash. NOPE. WE OUT. Fair enough, we left and went to a place where we felt safer. The point is, be aware. With the things going on in the world, we can’t stress enough, how important it is to take care of yourself when you are in a public place. Fortunately it was an innocent incident, he was like…. an employee or something. LOL.

That was how we ended up at The Coyote Ugly Bar. Here, we ran into some interesting people. At one point, a woman almost got hit in the face for walking up on Mary. It turned out to be too hilarious for her to be mad about. She was sweet, just FADED okurt. Lol. She walked up to Mary and said, “Hey Bitch.” Mary dogged her for a second, then said “Hey Bitch.” back. From that moment on, they were making stranger sandwiches. Very interesting night. ha!

Graffiti Park

Here are a few snapshots of our experience at Graffiti Park. As far as I know, this location has closed, and they were supposed to be reopening a new site for artist to come and show their talents. We have to go back and see 😉
