Zilker Park Bridge Jumping – Dangerous Fun in Austin, Texas

Mary: “Bet you won’t jump off that bridge right there.”
Jane: “Bet you I will.”

So I mentioned in our previous blog, Weird and Wild – Austin, Texas that there was also a ridiculous end of it all. I mean, there’s a ridiculous side of each of these trips but this was a little risky. Frankly, Mary and I, we’re a little fuckin’ dumb right…but it was a fantastic day. Stupid choices sometimes make the best memories. Oh uh, don’t quote me on that. That sounds a little stupid, ha.
Now imagine, rolling peacefully down the creek in your canoe. The birds are singing, and you here the faint sounds of turtles dipping into the water. Your oar is slowly gliding, and your hair is gracefully blowing in the wind. Then all the sudden you hear, “Bet you won’t jump off that bridge right there.”

Naturally, I responded with, “Bet I will” because I always will. I don’t know why. It’s probably a problem.

I immediately thought back to a moment of my teenage years, when my family stopped on a bridge to watch fireworks on the fourth of July. They stood with all their heads up watching the show while I spend the time staring down onto the ground below. I was thinking about how cool it would be, if I could actually jump freely off a bridge and survive. I got the urge to see what it felt like to be on the very edge. So I stepped over the railing. Fireworks were still lighting up the sky as I stepped all the way over. My arms were extended behind me and my heart was beating out of my chest. It was the most intense moment of my life. I slowly lifted one foot off of the edge and I held that moment. My foot was free hanging and I was staring downward. It was honestly great. STUPID one hundred percent, but great none the less. Shortly after, my uncle came up behind me, and pulled me back over in a panic. I apologized for scaring my folks, but from that moment on, jumping off of a bridge was number 3 on my bucket-list. Here we are, over ten years later, and I still don’t have any sense. Whatever.

Don’t get me wrong, we are not encouraging you to jump off of any bridges. It is NOT a good idea, and it is very dangerous. (OH AND UH ILLEGAL. I said Sorry okay!) I know, but some moments you just can’t let pass you by. This just happened to be one of mine. I literally said, “If I die, I die. At least I’ll go out checking something off of my bucket-list.” *shoulder shugs*
There was a little damage after the fact. But I didn’t realize it until a few days later. It became slightly painful. Worth every second though! It’s not the best quality, but you get the picture. OUCH, OKURT.

What we DO encourage, is for you to evaluate every moment, and every action in your life. The things you do, and the things you don’t do. Decide in that moment, if it feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity. If it is, don’t let it go. If its not, it’ll cross your path again. Don’t miss things. That’s all we’ll say about that.

Live your best live guys. On the edge or not, it’s yours to enjoy!

    1. Thats the kind of insane I aspire to be one day! After my jump, I ran off because I immediately learned it was illegal, whoops!

“everyone dispersed immediately! Don’t look at me, it seems suspicious!” 😳

Got to keep it wild and live your absolute best life!
